...dropped out from Reed College after only one semester... sleeping on the floor in friends' rooms, returning Coke bottles for food money, getting weekly free meals at the local Hare Krishna Temple (and loved it!)... took a job as a technician at Atari (video ga-mes)... with the primary intent of saving money for a spiritual retreat to India... traveled to India to visit Neem Karoli Baba at his Kainchi Ashram, in search of spiritual enlighten-ment... came back a Buddhist with his head shaved and wearing traditional Indian clo-thing... experimented with psychedelics, calling his LSD experiences "one of the two or three most important things he had done in his life"... later said that people around him who did not share his countercultural roots could not fully relate to his thinking.

Vertrouw, voel, geef, leef! Wees niet bang voor wat verdwijnt, het leven herneemt zich wel, altijd weer. Verbluffend snel.
Volg wat jou en anderen blijer maakt, het leven makkelijker, de wereld mooier! Wil daarom even tijd nemen, A.U.B., voor deze toespraak aan de Stanford Universiteit, bij de opening van het academisch jaar, in 2005.
