Wie is zij?

Zij doet méé! Al doet ze het voorlopig alleen, met haar drie honden, op de toendra bij haar woonplaats Bethel in Alaska.

Een of andere weirdo? Fanatiek- of excentriekelinge? Alternativa?...

Nee, Assistant Professor of Rural Human Services is ze, aan de University of Alaska Fairbanks, Kuskokwim Campus: "She runs the Human Service (HUMS) and Rural Human Service (RHS) cohort programs which teach students ways to help their communities deal with social issues". Diane McEachern heet ze, en ze is al meermaals onderscheiden "for bridging Western and Native learning". We spreken over Alaska, het land van de Yupik, niet te verwarren met de Inuit...

'I am a woman. The dogs are rescues. The tundra is outside of Bethel, Alaska. The day is chill. The sentiment is solid. Find your spot. Occupy it. Even if it is only your own mind', zegt ze in de Los Angeles Times.

"McEachern, an assistant professor in the rural human service program at the University of Alaska's Kuskokwim Campus, said she was following the Wall Street protests and wondering how they might be brought home to a town with one main street and no roads out: 'When I saw that it was growing and there was Occupying Portland and Occupying New Hampshire, I thought, for goodness' sake, what can I occupy? How can I get on this? And I thought, well, what's my context? What's important to me? The foreclosure [hypotheek] crisis may not have hit bush Alaska in a huge way, but people in Bethel are paying $6.87 a gallon for gasoline, she said. Stove oil [stookolie] prices for heating ho-mes are equally unaffordable. Cuts in social services to rural villages are pending. And right now, they're proposing here the largest gold mine in human history, the Pebble Mine, that's going to do catastrophic damage to the environment and the native community, in the premier wild salmon [zalm] habitat in the world. So I'm not well-versed on the larger economic system, but I can relate to the idea of corporate wealth being lopsidedly in the hands of so few, when so many are struggling'"...

For goodness' sake, what can I occupy? How can I get on this? What is MY context? What is important to ME?...
Wel... dat is... ONDERWIJS... voor Golo... en voor kinderen als Golo!!!...
En dus... ben ik vastbeslotener dan ooit... en deel vandaag al mee wat ik nog even verborgen dacht te houden... om me BEWUST te verbinden met deze 15-oktober-beweging!...
Deel ik dus vandaag mee dat ik van plan was en ben om in Culemborg (en/of de regio Culemborg-Geldermalsen-Tiel-Kesteren) een school van de grond te krijgen die zal werken precies zoals het Leo Kannercollege  in Leiden...
En dat ik daartoe al
- de open infoavond van die school heb bezocht, begin afgelopen week
- het (nog erg in gebreke blijvende!) zorgplan heb bestudeerd van het SWV Rivierland
- een afspraak heb gemaakt met de leerplichtambtenaar in Culemborg as. vrijdag
- contact heb opgenomen met de directeur van het Kannercollege i.v.m. vervolgafspraken (nieuw bezoek aan de school met groep ouders uit onze regio, concept komen toelichten in Tiel, e.d.m.)
- steun heb gevonden bij alvast twee ouders (in onze onmiddellijke omgeving)
- speel met de gedachte om meester Peter de Lange in te schakelen, advokaat (met succes) van het de wereld rondreizende zeilmeisje Laura Dekker


En hoop dat ook JIJ zult volgen!
